WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a mind-body exercise programme that utilises a combination of concentric and eccentric (lengthening and shortening) muscle-training exercises to develop, strengthen and tone a range of muscle groups. It emphasises balanced bodily development and the synergy between mind and body.
WHO STARTED PILATES, AND WHY?
Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century as a exercise programme to rehabilitate returning veterans from World War I. Joseph Pilates believed in the interrelatedness of mental and physical well-being, and developed a programme of precise movements that rehabilitate, strengthen and condition the entire body. Over the years, Pilates has evolved to include a multitude of new exercises, all of which, however, retain the same principles as those initially envisaged by Joseph Pilates.
WHAT DOES PILATES INVOLVE?
Pilates classes involve a combination of stretching, endurance, strength-training and core-strengthening for a period of an hour.
WHAT MUSCLE GROUPS CAN PILATES TARGET?
Pilates primarily focuses on core-strengthening, but is an entire body toner that works multiple different muscle groups.
CAN ANYONE DO PILATES?
Yes. Pilates classes are tailored to suit the specific needs of each individual client. Pilates classes benefit a wide range of persons, from seasoned athletes to pensioners.

1 Hour.

I’M EASILY BORED BY EXERCISE, WHAT KEEPS PILATES INTERESTING?
With a multitude of exercises available, no two classes are ever the same. You will always perform different exercises, that target different muscle groups, on different days.

Not necessarily, although the best effects of Pilates are felt in conjunction with a healthy diet.
