Pilates sessions involve a combination of stretching, endurance, strength-training and core-strengthening for a period of an hour. Unlike most forms of exercise, Pilates utilises a combination of concentric and eccentric (lengthening and shortening) muscle-training to develop, strengthen and tone. It is a zero-impact form of exercise, which any person of any age can do – as each class is specially tailored to suit the needs and physical ability of the particular client. Pilates exercise primarily takes place through the use of Pilates equipment, such as Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels (visit the Studio Page to find out more), with the ancillary use of other apparatus such as mats, bands and balls.
No two Pilates classes are ever the same, as a range of different exercises are utilised at different intervals, in different classes.
